Buddy Holly Buddy Holly sings a song he wrote which was inspired by John Wayne's movie, The Searchers. The Searchers also starred Natalie Wood and Jeff Hunter. John Wayne's character in the movie kept saying "That'll be the day." Buddy was known for his excellent guitar playing and his songwriting as well as his singing. He had about 10 hit songs before he died in the airplane crash on February 3rd of 1959, which also took the lives of The Big Bopper and Ritchie Valens. Buddy was a great talent. His sound inspired Bobby Vee and Tommy Roe among others. Buddy actually was a big hit when he played at The Apollo Theater in New York.

The Crickets Buddy Holly and The Crickets were at their peak of popularity when Buddy died. He had a look and personality which probably would have made him a Hollywood acting star. We will never know.
